Holy Week—Monday

(For the next few days, I will be writing little reminders about what Holy Week means to me. I hope you find it an encouragement.)
Jesus was preparing Himself mentally and physically to die for all of us. He knew there were some who were actually excited for the opportunity to kill Him. Yet, there were others who just wanted to love Him.
“But when the chief priests and the teachers of the law saw the wonderful things he did and the children shouting in the temple courts, “Hosanna to the Son of David,” they were indignant. “Do you hear what these children are saying?” they asked him. “Yes,” replied Jesus, “have you never read, “ ‘From the lips of children and infants you, Lord, have called forth your praise’ ?””
Matthew 21:15-16 NIV.
So often our children see, know and love God in a way that it takes our breath away. Sometimes we smile, yet, sometimes we are embarrassed by their exuberance.
I wonder if that’s when God begins to fade in the eyes of children? Being told to hush, quiet down, or that there’s a time and a place for everything—and a public display of worship is not good manners.
Compared to the adults who were abusing the temple for financial gain—Matthew 21:12-13, the purity of these children’s voices must have been refreshing.
Let’s encourage our children to praise God freely, without bias, for Jesus’s sake.
He came for all of humanity.
