The Adventurer

The Adventurer 2

“I lift up my eyes to the mountains— where does my help come from? My help comes from the Lord, the Maker of heaven and earth. He will not let your foot slip— he who watches over you will not slumber;”

‭‭Psalm‬ ‭121‬:‭1‬-‭3‬, NIV‬‬.

If God never lets our foot slip, why do we stumble and fall?

God has given us free will. And therefore, we have a choice to remain in His care under His protection as the Creator God or to walk in our own way, insisting on our desires. Unless our desires are to seek Him with all of our heart, soul, mind, and strength, we will stumble in darkness.

His way is lit. Our way is not. He will provide the needed light for our feet to plant themselves firmly on His path, compared to our way, which is trying to figure it out as we go. We then think we can trust the darkness we find ourselves in as a result of following our own self-guiding map.

God has given us what we need to walk securely—His word, His road map. Our job is to read it and follow it. As difficult as that is to do so on a daily basis, it does make a difference when we do so.

When using Google Maps or Waze, have you ever thought, “I know a better way," and then spun off course only to realize that the satellite that gives Waze its coordinates has a bird's-eye view of the road ahead of you, and there was an accident you didn’t foresee?

A map is only as good as it is followed.

Going off course is fun for the adventurer, but it's easier to get lost as well.

When we are spiritually lost there’s only One who can redirect our steps. Thankfully He’s willing to do that for His children.

He has promised:

“Keep your lives free from the love of money and be content with what you have, because God has said, “Never will I leave you; never will I forsake you,” Hebrews 13:5, NIV.

When we obey God’s word, we find that it’s actually liberating. It sets us free from strongholds that yank us back to our darker days. We can be content with just God!

God does desire to keep our feet from stumbling, but we have to do our part and not attempt to get lost. If you want to be an adventurer, go hiking! Don’t put God’s road map—His word—down and walk away from it, purposefully ignoring it. Doing so is almost a guarantee for losing one’s way.

He wants to keep our feet from stumbling. He’s given us a lit path.

Are you actively walking in darkness? Are you trusting your wisdom rather than God’s? Are you insisting on your own way?

It only takes a moment to resubmit to God’s way. If need be, will you do that today?

Father,

Thank You that as Creator, You know more than we do. You know everything. Forgive us when we usurp Your wisdom and think our way superior. Foolish man.

Thank You that Your word is constant, Your way is firm, and Your path is well lit.

Help us to open up Your word, not just to read it, but in order to obey it.

We surrender to You today. Let this be the day You have made in order for us to rejoice and be glad in it.

Amen.
